"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."

Matthew 28:19-20

Make Disciples. If we were on the game show Family Feud, there is no doubt that the survey would show these two words among the top answers given for the purpose of the church. And it is a good answer. The church has been commanded by Christ to make disciples (Matthew 28:19-20).

In the book, Discipling: How to Help Others Follow Jesus (Dever, Crossway 2016) the author, Mark Dever says, “Discipleship is the term I use to describe our own following Christ. Discipling is the subset of that, which is helping someone else follow Christ.” I like this simple, working definition as I think it conveys the work we have to do. I must follow Christ. You must follow Christ. We must help each other follow Christ.

Here are three key ways that we engage in discipleship at Village Bible Church

The Sunday Worship Gathering. Every Sunday, at 10am, as we gather and the word of God is opened, we are encouraged to obey and follow Christ, and discipleship is happening. In fact, it could easily be said that the greatest vehicle of discipleship that we can participate in is the corporate, local gathering of the church for the purpose of worshiping God. Prioritize this time every Sunday morning!

Sunday School. From 9-9:45am, each Sunday, September through May, we have Bible classes for every age. From 4 years old and up through any ages adult, there is a class happening to help any individual grow in their understanding and knowledge of God through teh truth of his word. Engage in a Sunday School class and grow with others.

Midweek Student Ministry. On Wedenaday night, from 6:30-8pm, October through April, discipling efforts will take aim at our K-12 grade students! Kids in K-5th grade will learn a new truth about God each week as they journey through the Bible from Creation to the Return of Christ. Our 6th-12th grade students gather around God’s Word and, utilizing age appropriate study guides, work though a book of the Bible. Midweek Student Ministry provides and excellent opportunity for disciples to make disciples! Get involved and serve!

Personal Relationships. At Village Bible, we understand that every journey has a beginning and that no matter what your age may be, when you begin a journey with Christ as Lord there are questions and there is a need for help.

We believe that making disciples of Jesus, as He commands, involves teaching and learning. Teaching and learning never stops for the follower of Jesus, no matter your age. As far as the learning curve with Jesus Christ as Lord is concerned, it’s always a curve.

  • If you have not by faith trusted Jesus for your salvation and want to talk about that more with someone

  • If you are a new believer, wondering what to do next

  • If you are wanting to know Jesus better or how to share Him with others;

  • If you are intimidated by the Bible, where to start, what to read, but desire to open it

  • If you have questions about what church is, why we sing, why we give, we desire to help you!

If you have had any of these thoughts, or questions related to them, please contact us by email at info@thevillagemi.com or by phone at (810) 266-4776, so we can begin helping you today!
