Camp Barakel Work Trip

  • Camp Barakel 1798 Shear Lake Road Fairview, MI, 48621 United States (map)

Camp Barakel is in need of some help and a crew from Village Bible is going.

WHO: Able-bodied people, young and old, who can cut firewood, pick up firewood, throw brush on trucks.

WHEN: March 20-23.  You can come for any or all of the days.

Food and lodging are provided; we just need a head count ahead of time for the staff to be prepared.

CONTEXT: Some kind of disease went through the Huron National Forest and killed the majority of the oak trees.  Barakel has lost hundreds of trees which are now dead, but still standing. Many of these trees are in close proximity to lodges, chapels, dining halls, or staff housing and must be removed asap for safety reasons.  The number of trees is staggering, last year the crew that went removed over 70 of them just from the RV park.  We coordinated the rental of a lift again this year and will be putting as many of these trees on the ground as possible.  We need many volunteers to follow the lift and clean up the brush and wood once it's on the ground.  Evening time will consist of sitting around a fire in the lodge and talking, playing games, etc.

If you are interested call/text Steve Kingsley at (517) 204-3682.
